Short version: NeatShot does not collect, transmit or sell any personal data. What you capture stays on your Mac.

What NeatShot stores

Screenshots, screen recordings, step-by-step guides, recognized text and settings are stored only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/NeatShot and in folders you choose for saving. You can delete them in the app or in Finder at any time, and set how long history is kept.

What NeatShot sends

Nothing about you or your captures. NeatShot has no account system, cloud storage, analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK. Its only network use is updating: the built-in updater (Sparkle) checks the update feed on this website (https://neatshot.app/appcast.xml), once a day by default, and downloads a new version from this website when you choose to install it. These requests carry what any web request carries (your IP address) plus a user agent with the app name, the app version and the Sparkle version; NeatShot sends no system profile. You can turn off automatic checks, or automatic download and install, in Settings › General › Updates.

Text recognition

Text and QR codes are recognized on your Mac with Apple's Vision framework. Images and text are never uploaded. Opening a link found in a QR code happens only when you click Open in Browser.

Permissions

Screen Recording lets NeatShot capture your screen. Accessibility (Device Control & Data Access on macOS 27) enables automatic scrolling and names guide steps after the clicked element. Microphone, Camera and Input Monitoring are used only during screen recordings you start, and keystrokes are never shown while secure input is active. All permissions are requested by macOS and can be revoked in System Settings.

This website

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It uses Google Analytics, with Google signals and ad personalization turned off, to see which pages are visited, which site or campaign a visit came from, and whether a Download button is clicked. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies to recognize a returning browser; it is not loaded at all when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. To credit a download to the visit that led to it, the site keeps the campaign tags of your first page (such as utm_source) in your browser's session storage until you close the tab. The site's server also counts each DMG download and update-feed request: the date, the file and app version, the country, the referring site, campaign tags and whether the request came from a Mac. IP addresses and full user agents are not stored. Cloudflare may process standard request logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. The NeatShot app itself contains no analytics.

Children

NeatShot does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. A change that adds any data collection would be announced in the release notes first.
